How The Election Went For A First Time Voter

Today is the day when I get to first exercise my right and responsibility for suffrage. It is an exhilarating feeling because through this I am taking part on the country’s vital decision making on who the leaders should be. With this election, the future of our country is shaped through the selection of the leaders who would either bring progress and beneficial change to this nation or destruction and disunity of this country.

I and my companions went as early as 8am to Gen. Licerio Geronimo Elementary School and as soon as we reached the place, I could see plenty of people distributing papers endorsing their candidates at the last minute. I did not bother to accept any of those papers since I know that these are considered as campaign activities which are prohibited by the COMELEC. Also, I do not want to add up to the irresponsible littering to the surroundings. We then went inside and ask for several instructions on the nearest desk help that we saw. After that we fell in line, presented our voter’s information, signed beside our listed names, thumb marked the paper and then receive the blank ballot that we are to fill in. The time taken for filling in the ballot depends on every person. If one has already thoroughly researched his/her choices and has come up to a complete list of candidates, then most probably he/she could finished it up for a short period of time; otherwise, he/she would be consuming more time weighing on who to vote. After that, individually, we proceeded to the PCOS machine, printed our receipts, and then received an ink mark as proof of our voting. The election process was easy and convenient as that! We had even finished the process for less than an hour. However (since I stayed for a little while to observe), as time passes, more people had also come creating long queues to some precincts making the hallway more crowded and inconvenient for passage. Thus, coming early is really an advantage in finishing the process fast.

In conclusion, the election process was smooth and I had not undergone any troubles to their staffs and procedures nor any casualties on the votes I casted. Right now, the only left thing to do is to pray for those whoever may win that they would take full responsibilities towards the majority who have chosen them, careful accountability for the development and progress of our country and proper execution of justice and equality. Moreover, for fair and justifiable election, let us all be vigilant for any violations to COMELEC’s rules and regulations so that these actions may be taken noticed and proper measures may be applied. Mabuhay ang Pilipinas! Para sa Pagbabago!
